Grade 1/2C and 1/2E have been busy learning addition strategies. This Youtube clip will assist parents in knowing what strategies are being taught so that you can use the same terms. We use the term "near doubles' for'doubles plus one' because we encourage the children to choose to 'add one' or to 'take away one' from the doubles, hence they are near doubles.
I can practise my counting skills
For those children who can count competently by 2s, 5s and 10s to 110, we challenge you to learn to count by 3s!

The Double Rap!
Singing a rap helps to assist the children in learning doubles in maths and makes it fun. You may wish to ask your child to practise at home with you. The lyrics are typed below for you .
It’s a double rap
It’s a double rap baby. Let’s go, Let’s go, It’s a double rap baby, And we start with zero.
Zero plus zero is one. Oh! One plus one is two. (Finger point) OOOh!
2 + 2 is 4 More! (hand out) 3+3is 6 Kicks! 4 +4 is 8 That’s great! (elbow swing)
5+5 is 10 Again (grab and pull) 6+6 is 12 That’s swell (hold head)
7+7 is 14 Let’s lean! 8+8 is 16 Really Keen (point finger)
9+9 is 18 Juggling beans! 10+10 is 20 That’s plenty
